Who We Are:

North Vancouver Save Our Shores Society is a small community group of volunteers dedicated to protecting, preserving, restoring and enhancing our North Vancouver waterfront and inter-tidal marine habitat. For a number of years SOS has been active as a North Vancouver District (NVD) advocacy group pressing for the responsible stewardship of the shoreline whenever rezoning applications or variance permits are sought from the municipality.

All members of the NVSOSS are active in the community and some have significant experience working on various NVD advisory committees.

How We Began:

The Society was formed in 2000 as part of the ‘Living By Water’, Canada wide millennium project. Our particular contribution was to conduct a low tide discovery walk and inter-tidal zone beach cleanup. While the society is concerned with the preservation, health and access of all British Columbian beaches, our particular geographical area of interest is from Maplewood Flats to Seycove Marina in Deep Cove. The beach walk and clean up has been held annually since the year the society was formed.

Over the last one hundred years the inter-tidal zone has been subjected to significant stress and thoughtless, often unknowing abuse, to the extent that it is now difficult and sometimes impossible to access and walk the beach at any time close to high-water. It is therefore the desire and wish of NVSOSS to seek the co-operation and help of all concerned to ensure that all people have free and unencumbered access to a pristine beach for their enjoyment and wonder, now and for future generations.
